Although spring and autumn are less expensive than high seasons, they are equally as warm.
Le Dune Resort, on the northwest coast of the island overlooking Asinara Bay, was our September home away from home.
The resort, which covers 170 hectares of land, feels like it’s part of the countryside. Everything there — its five hotels, ten restaurants and six swimming pools — is surrounded by verdant foliage.
Walking through the resort you are immersed in greenery, from 18th-century Juniper trees to giant cacti and reeds, while lantana flowers bring vibrant colours.
It offers shade during the hottest part of the day and provides a quiet refuge for those who need to recharge.
My partner and me stayed at the resort’s Hotel Le Sabine. The large lagoon pool was a great place for our 2-year-old daughter to swim in.

The 94 rooms are decorated with soothing tones, light colors, and traditional Sardinian fabrics. The poolside bar offers delicious caprese salads as well as chilled drinks to take a break from the heat – it was still open when we visited.
The spa is just a few steps away if your goal is to relax. The three hydrotherapy tubs were an excellent treat for tired limbs. There are many treatments available if you need to get rid of the fluids.
You can also find the stunning Li Junchi Beach right outside your door. Its soft sands, turquoise waters and perfect shot for an Instagram account. The beach was recently awarded the Blue Flag Award.
Our daughter built sandcastles right in front of the gentle rolling waves. We also enjoyed some rare sunbathing time.

We had a beautiful sunset and decided to grab a bite at the beach bar before heading to the hotel’s beachfront restaurant.
Octopus stew
There are many dessert options, including grilled lamb chops and fried red mullet. There are also plenty of pasta options that will please everyone, even our little one, who enjoyed a simple penne with tomato sauce.
We also visited three other restaurants while we were there. Half board included access to all five resort hotels. Il Leccio, located near our hotel, was a true feast that featured an endless parade of Italian tapas.
If you’re looking for spaghetti carbonara, or suckling pork, then go ahead. Carrimbanca is known for their meat dishes. They use it in almost every pasta recipe as well as the roast. Carnivores Heaven.
Perhaps the best open-air fish restaurant Lo Scorfano is perhaps the best. We loved its octopus soup, Fregola pasta and clams, as well as the juicy shrimp that were grilled right in front of us.
We avoided desserts at the restaurant almost every night – but not because it was healthy. We saved our money for gelato at the resort where they make all the icecream themselves.
Our daughter picked strawberries every single time, while the adults loved the pistachio nuts topped off with crunchy nuts.
It was so good we were willing even to tolerate ridiculous opening hours – evening only, with an odd close between 8pm-9pm.
The resort offers many activities for children, including ice cream and other treats.
Our daughter loved the playground that was built into the dunes as well as the trampoline line in the area next to it.
It was a shame that she was too young for the Kids Club, which is only open to children three years old and older.
They offer a variety of activities, including painting, cooking, and other sports. For children to enjoy, there are tennis courts and soccer fields as well as archery.
They can also enjoy a dance party on the main stage every night if they are allowed to go to bed at a later hour.
A restaurant that serves basic pasta meals as well as yogurts or snacks is a blessing for parents with children under three. It took the pressure off of us finding something for our little girl from the more upscale restaurant buffets around the resort.
Sardinia offers many opportunities to explore the area beyond the resort. You can enjoy half and full day sea safaris along the coast to see dolphins and other marine life.
Historic Castelsardo is just a 25-minute drive from the city. The narrow mountain streets of the historic town are great for souvenirs and food finds. However, it’s not recommended to take a toddler along as it’s a steep climb.
The pretty town of Isola Rosa at the end of the six-mile stretch is near the resort. It’s a great spot for a sunset picnic, or just to enjoy a quiet spot. the shopping.
We were pleasantly surprised to be greeted by the staff at the hotel with a refreshing drink by the pool.
