Aline Khan, a 17 year-old emergency doctor, said that A&E was in such a dire state that patients were being examined in the corridors, while private examinations were done in the lockers.
“All over the country we hear about patients being checked in the hallways [and]Patients stuck in ambulances, unable to access A&E – one patient up to 99hrs,” she stated.
“We see children being checked on the floors of accident and emergency departments as staff try to hold sheets to protect their dignity.
“We have people all across the country concerned that they might have bowel cancer. They need to be examined in the lockers.”
Patients are treated in the worst possible way.
The minister was then asked if the increase in workforce was sufficient and if it was necessary for improving standards for patients.
Dr Aline Khan replied: “If you look at the facts you will know that Patients are treated in the most horrific waysWhile patients need to feel better, the government is not doing enough.
“We have a missing-in-action prime minister and Steve Barclay and Rishi Sunak to blame the pandemic and the flu crisis on this issue… We had in fact in January 2020 only one A&E across the country met the four-hour wait target.
“There have been political decisions that have been made over 12 years that have led to this situation where patients have been treated in a very disgraceful manner.”
