The UK government’s push to close the AI skills gap comes with a focus on a risk-based approach.
According to industry forecasts, artificial intelligence will boom in 2023. UK government It has taken the initiative to fill the skills gap in this industry. The government is evaluating the industry-funded Master’s Program in Artificial Intelligence, (IMAI), at the end 2022. The IMAI aims at “promoting opportunities for applied learning in artificial intelligence within the UK.”
The UK has faced a lot of pressure to regulate, in addition to education. The Regulatory Horizons Council published two independent reports in November about regulation of neurotechnology as a medical device.

This curatorial approach continues with the Alan Turing Institute, which has been selected by the British government to pilot an initiative that will set standards and best practice in artificial intelligence.
The Turing Institute, with support from BSI and National Physical Laboratory, will run the UK’s AI Standards Center.
“The center will ensure that industry, regulators, civil society and academic researchers have the tools and knowledge they need to contribute to the development of standards,” said Dr. Florian Ostmann, of the Turing Institute.
As part of Brexit freedoms, the UK’s pro-innovation shift towards AI policy is possible. This is in contrast to the European Union’s derisking approach which seeks ban high-risk AI systems as well as systems that are moderately high risk.
