2023: UK businesses see an increase in confidence

Confidence in UK prospects EconomieAccording to the IoD Index, it is expected to rise in 2023.

Institute of Directors (IoDThe Company Managers’ Economic Confidence Index measures the optimism of business leaders about the prospects for Britain’s economy. It rose from -64 to -58 in November to reflect an improvement in revenue, hiring, and investment outlooks and optimism among managers about their organizations’ prospects.

IoD is an independent political organization that has nearly 20,000 members. These members include CEOs and project managers at large companies. The organization collects the interests of business leaders in relation to its indicator. The latest survey focused on economic confidence.

Sixty-six percent of IoD members said that inflation was one their top priorities for government intervention in 2023. The second priority for business support was the recession.

The index also showed that 55% of business leaders expected higher revenues over the next twelve months, while 30 percent expected higher business investment and 1 percent expected higher employment rates.

Based on survey data, the IoD Index of Director Confidence was developed using data from 12-30 December 2022. It measured net positive responses by Institute of Directors members to the question “How optimistic are you about UK’s economy over the next twelve months?” It used a five-point scale to rank from “very optimistic” through “very pessimistic.”
