Martin O’Neill was a great manager with many talents, but what made him so popular with Leicester City fans was his ability to win matches even when investment and talent were too much for him. O’Neill beat Liverpool three more times and drew with Liverpool once in four visits to Anfield, 1996-2000. They lost nine of their eleven Premier League games and drew two. O’Neill was a more strategic player than Gerard Houllier. But, he won the final victory with goals from Tony Cottee (34 years old) and Phil Gilchrist (44) against a team that included Robbie Fowler. The team that will win three cups in the next season includes Emile Heskey and Sami Hyypia.
What could Lester do today with some of this? Brendan Rodgers seemed to be thrown in the towel with his team selection on Boxing Day. A 3-0 victory against Newcastle was his only half-time result. His forced absence due to a knee injury only highlighted the extent to whom they depended on James Maddison to spark their creativity. Unfortunately, he will not be back tonight. The 2021 deals remain disappointing.
Liverpool secured the win at Villa Park. This was thanks to the interaction between their fullbacks, Trent Alexander Alexander-Arnold’s passing, sharp finishes from Aston Villa and their high defense. Some problems. Alex Olxlade – Chamberlain made a good start to the 10 month period. Darwin Nunez did a fantastic job, although his finish was not up to his efforts. Stefan Bagcetic proved why he was so hardworking to get more involved.
I have yet to find anyone, not even the bookies, who would expect anything less than a home win. Rodgers may have struggled, just like Kenny Dalglish, ex-Liverpool manager in 1993, in his return home to Anfield. Perhaps he was too distracted by the tugging at his heart strings on Boxing Day, which could have prevented him from getting anything tonight. However, to me, he seems to be preoccupied with the window, and rushing to get there as soon as possible.
