Rishi Sunak was mocked for asking a homeless man at a shelter if they were in business.
While serving food at a London homeless shelter, the Prime Minister struck up a conversation in which he met Dean, whom Labor described as “haunting”.
Dean asked the prime minister, who was serving food: “Are you sorting out the economy?
Senek replied, “That’s exactly the thing I’m trying do.”
Dean continued to state that improving the economy would be beneficial for business. Sunak then asked Dean, “Do you have… Are you in business?”
He replied, “No, I am homeless.” “I am actually a homeless person. But I am interested in working.”
The prime minister explained how he worked as a finance officer and how positions could be found in the center of the country.
After Dean shows interest, he then asks Dean if Dean would be interested in the business.
Dean replied, “Yeah I don’t mind, but, you don’t know, I’d like to have Christmas before.”
Angela Rayner, Labor’s Deputy Leader, said that the exchange was “painful” and Jonathan Ashworth, shadow work secretary and pensions secretary, called Sunak “Alan Partridge PM”.
Isabelle Oakeshott, journalist, stated that the exchange was “really quite strange” and accused the prime minster of failing “any curiosity nor sympathy”.
