Christmas Day is supposed be magical, but it can be stressful to have to cook for so many hungry people.

Indeed, for the person responsible for the spread of the festivities, this can be a very difficult time — and not the most wonderful time of the year.

Signe Svanfeldt is the lead nutritionist at livesumThis explains why it is so hard for many reasons.

He says, “We can feel pressure to make everything perfect and set very high expectations for what we have to achieve.

It can be hard to cater for everyone’s dietary needs and preferences. If there are many guests, there may be many people cooking for them.

But things don’t have a to be this way.

He suggested some tips to avoid a Christmas dinner meltdown and how to keep cool in the kitchen.

Failure to plan is a recipe for failure

Signe explains that it is important to prepare all the food and dishes ahead of time in order to avoid stress on Christmas Day.

Remember, a lot of food can be precooked and reheated—especially things like sauces and gravy. Desserts can also be stored in the refrigerator for a few hours.

Eliminate responsibility

Signe adds, “You don’t have to do it all yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask for help.”

Split the cooking responsibilities to make it easier for one person.

You can also ask your guests to bring a reheating meal to help you out.

Keep it simple

Signe explains how Christmas stress can be caused by too many things and too many dishes.

The solution to this is to keep it simple and strip things down — your bank balance will thank you, too.

Instead of having seven sides to your Thanksgiving dinner, why not have just two?

Drink responsibly

“Drink alcoholic beverages in moderation—too much alcohol can make us lose control and may cause conflicts with our loved ones,” Signe explains.

Drinking can make you anxious about Christmas Day and other parts of the holiday.

enjoy it

“When you sit down to eat your meal, try to take a breath, focus on the food and eat slowly,” adds Siegen.

Don’t rush to prepare a meal if you’re not confident about it. Enjoy the magic you create in the kitchen.
