Andrew Western, Labor’s new Member of Parliament, has won the Stretford-Urmston by-elections.
The Leader of Trafford council for Greater Manchester constituency retained a majority in excess of 10,000.
The bitter cold weather on polling days and the expectation of Labor getting an easy comment contributed significantly to a turnout of only 25.8 percent
Western, with a majority of 9,906, declared that the result sent a strong message to Rishi Sunak’s government.
Emily Carter Kandola, a Conservative candidate, finished second with 2,922 ballots and a 15.8 percentage.
Dan Jerome, Green Party candidate, came in third.
The vote follows Kate Green’s resignation as Labor minister to become deputy mayor for Greater Manchester.
Nine candidates ran for her position as deputy in the Labor Party stronghold.
Andrew Western thanked his mom for her support and stated: “A strong message is being sent with the outcome this evening.
“And the peoples from Stretford, Urmston not only speak for this constituency but also for millions of others across the land who know that this government failed us over the past 12 years.”
