Christmas fanatic refuses let the cost of livingThis year, the crisis has ruined his festive fun.

Paul Hutchinson, 33 years old, spreads joy every year to Sunderland by covering his terraced residence with a glittering display light show.

But due to rising energy costs, he now has to pay an extra £11 a day to keep his house lit.

Paul turned the lights off on November 6th, and will take them down again on January 2nd. He estimates it would cost him £637, bringing his total energy bill to £1,044.

“Christmas is always lit,” said the father of one of the children. “Having the energy company raise their prices wouldn’t stop me from doing that.

These companies are taking Christmas from families, but I am determined not to let them down.

It costs me £18 a day, as opposed to £7 a day before the decorations go up. It’s worth it to see the baby’s face when he walks past.

Every child has the right of seeing Christmas lights and to love them all. People travel from all over the North East just to see the lights. I also put them on when the lights are turned on by the council so it’s part and parcel of the show.

The heating and plumbing engineers also installed a huge Christmas tree in the front yard, complete with shiny reindeer as well as a life-size Nutcracker.

He also blasts Christmas songs from loudspeakers, which are available for all to hear.

Paul said that Francis, his 5-year-old son, loves to hang ornaments from the tree and get into the Christmas spirit.

He added, “My son loves it.” He said that he would hang up his Christmas decorations once Halloween is over.

As a child, my mom and dad would always bring Christmas decorations to me. It’s an incredible experience.

It’s for the community. No one talks to each others anymore, and that’s a shame.

This is a great way to bring people together and spark conversation. The children are standing beside the tree in the yard. It’s wonderful to see.
