Week in review With Jason Dean

Bitcoin is dead!

It’s not true, but that’s what media want you to believe. Negative coverage is everywhere. There is an interesting side to this story.

Check out the official Bitcoin Obituary at 99Bitcoins.com(Collection negative media articles confidently declaring end to global assets) 2017 was the year with the most announcements, coinciding with ICO and frantic markets. That year, the death of bitcoin was announced 124 times — more than twice a week.

This year, however, it happened only 27 times, though under much stricter conditions. How can that be explained?

The negative press focuses mainly on the ramifications FTX/3AC/Celsius etc, rather than Bitcoin itself.

Either journalists are beginning to correctly separate crypto and bitcoin categories, or there aren’t enough columns to cover both. It would be nice to believe it’s the former and make progress, but I doubt it.

The chaos that the industry is currently in reminds of the early days on the internet. This was the theme of what I said in my opening remarks at City AM London’s second conference two weeks ago. It’s a Now on YouTubeDue to the late start to the day, the timer will need to be moved to 22:50 in order to check it out. I’d love to know if you have any memories of the internet scams I mentioned.

However, my favorite “anti-Bitcoin” account this week is GreepeaceUSA who was paid a multi-million dollar push by Ripple’s Chris Larsen to put pressure on Bitcoin’s Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus with the ultimate goal of turning it into a Proof-of-Stake (PoS) coin. ). You probably already know this, XRP.

Uncertainty about Proof-of Work and why it is necessary to provide truly decentralized money is common. But Greenpeace’s most recent claims are borderline absurd. Every tweet they send is rated completely by sarcasm, corrections, and sarcasm. Check out this week’s effort The main account is hereAnother attempt at the sub “change the code”, which quickly failed The account is here.

Ironically, this is something we discussed at length during our local Bitcoin meeting. Volunteer PubWe chose Theale last night because they have just joined the long line of retail outlets that accept Bitcoin via Lightning Network via Bridgetobitcoin. Let’s just say our collective view on Greenpeace has reached rock bottom, no matter how shaky.

While Brazil approved BitcoinAs a legal payment method, being the first country to move towards the Bitcoin standard. Others will follow.

This irony is because bitcoin is now dead.

Apparently.

Have a nice weekend!
