After Julian Knight, a senior MP, was complained to the Metropolitan Police about the whip, the Tories removed it from Knight.

After Wednesday night’s filing of the complaint, Speaker Webb Simon Hart removed Mr Knight’s Tory whip.

Chairman of the Digital Commons, Culture, Media and Sport Committee is Mr. Knight.

The 50-year old has represented Solihull since 2015.

A spokeswoman for Mr Hart said that the head of government had removed the whip from MP Julian Knight immediately after receiving a complaint to the Metropolitan Police.

She declined to comment on details of the complaint, as it is currently under investigation.

The Metropolitan Police declined to comment.

Conor McGinn, Labor MP, was also suspended from the party on Wednesday night pending an investigation.

McGinn has been representing St Helens North since 2015. He will now sit as an Independent MP.

The nature of the investigation has not been confirmed.

In a statement provided to The Guardian, Mr McGinn said: “I strongly reject any suggestion of wrongdoing, and I look forward to having the issue resolved quickly.

“I have not received any information about the complaint, but it is unfounded.

“The Labor Party has informed my that it is automatically bound under a temporary procedural suspend while a complaint investigation is underway.”
