HuffPost UK learned that Douglas Alexander, former Labor minister may be standing again in the next general election.

A senior party figure was forced to give up his seat to the SNP in 2015.

He has been a Senior Fellow at Harvard University since then and has also taught at New York University.

Now it is clear that he will be running for East Lothian Labor candidate in the next election.

With a Labor majority numbering 3,886, Kenny MacAskill won the seat in 2019. Since then, he defected from SNP to Alex Salmond’s ALBA party.

After being elected as the first MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South, Alexander was appointed minister by Tony Blair and Gordon Brown.

HuffPost UK understands that he has been approached in East Lothian by Labor members about being their candidate in the upcoming election.

The selection process will start in the new year.

Alexander held three ministerial roles as well as several junior ministries during his time with the government.

After this revelation, it was reported that he may have to return to the House of Commons. David Miliband – another leading figure from the New Labour era – could make a dramatic comeback.

It is another sign that Labor is optimistic about the party’s return to power in the coming elections.

As the Conservative Party faces the possibility of going back to opposition, several Conservative Party MPs have made it clear that they will not be standing down in the upcoming elections.
