15 people killed in Russian bombings in Kherson as Ukraine tries to regain its power

According to officials, 15 civilians were killed by Russian bombing in Kherson, Ukraine, on Friday. Engineers across the country worked to restore power, heating, and water to major cities.

In Ukraine, Russian air strikes have caused the country’s energy infrastructure to stop in recent weeks as winter approaches. The temperatures are close to freezing. This has led to fears of a mass exodus and a health crisis.

Volodymyr Zelesky, President of Ukraine, said that power outages continue to affect more than six millions households in the country. This was just two days after Russia launched strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Okerengo, the country’s national power company said Friday that the grid still faced a 30% shortfall and that technicians were working “around-the-clock” to restore power. It said that coverage will increase over the weekend due to additional nuclear power.

The Russians’ most recent shelling was concentrated on Kherson, a major southeast city that was recently retaken by Ukrainian forces.

Galina Lugova, a city official, stated that 15 people were killed and 35 others were wounded by enemy shelling. It also stated that many “private houses and high-rise building” were destroyed.
