The reactions of some fans to it are a puzzle for the reader PokemonScarlett and Violet insist there aren’t any major performance issues.
Video game graphics should be amazing. However, there are limitations. Each game must make a choice between interactivity and detail, the size of the world, complexity of the AI and physics engine, as well as hundreds of other factors in order to make Star Trek holodex a reality. You’ll need to make compromises if your hardware is less powerful.
Developer competency is another important aspect. Each one has its own specialties. For example, the Guerrilla games are great in graphics, but they are very poor in gameplay, as the Horizon Forbidden West game shows. Naughty Dog is a different story. They don’t seem to care about the game and instead focus on telling stories. Game Freak is another example of a developer who is not technically gifted but knows how to make a great Pokemon game.
For some reason this has only recently been acknowledged, and while Sword/Shield and Pokémon Legends: Arceus were much worse, obviously using the same graphics engine, it is Scarlet and violentwhich is rated as having Performance concerns. Scarlet is a horrible game. I have spent hours playing it. Although it’s not a very high-tech or beautiful game, there are very few bugs or performance issues.
This is all Gotham Knights fault, I will tell you right away. The game has made tech geeks across the globe so excited that they insist it is 60fps. This even applies to large open-world games with co-op online, where no reasonable person would expect. This opened up the possibility for people to complain about the “performance” issue. As the GC noted, it seems to have become a generic term that covers everything except photorealistic graphics.
Sometimes Pokémon Scarlet can have frame rate issues, but I’ve seen it maybe three times and it’s never lasted more than a minute. I didn’t find anything wrong with the game, except for the way the camera looks in tall grass and the occasional appearance of the floor having been repainted. Elden Ring does something very close to the same almost every time you load into a new area. I would actually say that these two games were quite similar in terms bugs and glitches.
Except, for some reason, the Elden Ring’s flaws are rarely mentioned and named Game of the Year, while Pokémon Scarlet becomes a scapegoat. While the game may look better, its performance is not the problem. The strange low frame rate animation that certain characters have? This is not a performance issue. The game works as intended.
This is also true for low character models and short draw distances. This is not a performance issue. It is the way it was made. Although it would be more effective if it weren’t, I doubt Guerrilla Games (or anyone else) can produce better graphics. However, could they create the same level of gameplay? I doubt it, especially because Scarlet is the best Pokemon.
It bothers me that people don’t seem to understand what they’re complaining about. They also chose to ignore the previous two games and complain about the new game’s inability to make the franchise move forward.
It’s almost like I’m joining the crowd, wanting to be part the audience. I blame a lot on tech review sites that constantly count pixels and measure frame rates in a clinical and honest way that I find very creepy. There are many games that were not technical marvels, but they were much more entertaining than the ones currently available.
My opinion is that Pokemon Scarlett, Violet and Violet belong in this category. It’s the best version of Pokémon I’ve played since the Game Boy and the only version on Switch that attempts to do something new and interesting. Although the graphics aren’t the best, they’re not bad at all, unlike Arceus. So I give this game a pass, and instead focus on the positives.
It is only how you play the game that matters, and how it makes your feel. Everything else is just a detail.
