One of Square Mile’s most powerful lobbyists stated that the UK government should reform financial industry regulations to improve the city’s green credentials, and expand its global reach.
TheCityUK, the financial sector regulator, said that the government should be focusing on the opportunities presented to them by the global transition in energy. This includes turning the City of London into the net zero financial center.
According to the group’s report, the UK should increase sales of British financial and professional service in other countries by signing trade agreement with foreign governments.
The report recommends that Britain’s government double its competitive advantages by strengthening its financial sector. This sector currently produces more than 12 percent of the UK’s GDP and employs over 2.2 million people.
He argues that the UK should take advantage of technological innovation, including blockchain technology. A global green transformation is also needed to ensure that regulation supports growth.
Lobby members also called for the government to “simplify and simplifie” the UK’s tax system by reducing taxes on the financial sector and delaying implementation of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), agreement on a 15% corporate tax, which was reached last year.
The report of the group argues that “clear and proportionate regulation” is essential for the city’s future success.
The trade group called on the government to keep pushing for reforms of EU regulations, such MiFID2 or Solvency II. It also demanded that reforms be done “as quickly & smoothly as possible”.
