A woman who was involved in the planning of the 2016 murder of eight members of a family in rural Ohio has claimed that her husband planned the crime.
Angela Wagner made this claim Tuesday while testifying in the trial of George Wagner IV, her 31-year old son. If convicted, Wagner could face the death penalty. She was expected to return on Wednesday to the runway.
Authorities claim that the killings were caused by a child custody dispute between Angela Wagner’s children, and one of the victims.
Angela Wagner said that Jake, her youngest child, wanted to kill the mother. However, George “Billy” Wagner III, her husband, objected as he believed the woman would seek revenge.
“They’ll be able to tell, and then they will come for Jake. Angela Wagner stated that her husband told Angela Wagner they were going after Jake, if not all of them. She also testified to him saying that the rest “had to die”
Angela Wagner pleaded guilty to 14 charges in September 2021 and agreed to testify against her husband and eldest son. The prosecution dismissed eight counts for aggravated murder and did not seek the death penalty.
Jake Wagner pleaded guilty to shooting five victims in April 2021. He claimed that he had no choice but kill the mother of his daughter, who was a young child at that time.
George Wagner IV, who is accused of conspiring to plan the murders, is the first person to face trial for the crime. His father pleaded not guilty, and he is unlikely to face trial until next year. The arrests of the Wagner family members took place more than two years after their murders.
The dead were 40-year-old Christopher Roden Sr.; His ex-wife, 37-year-old Dana Roden; their three children, 20-year-old Clarence “Frankie” Rhoden, 16-year-old Christopher Jr., and 19-year-old Hannah Rhoden, mother of Jake Wagner’s daughter; Clarence Rhoden’s fiancée, 20-year-old Hannah Gilly; Christopher Rhoden’s Sr. brother, 44-year-old Kenneth Rhoden; and his cousin, Gary Roden, 38.
